A scratch below the eye of a ten-year-old Shetland pony developed into a large ulcerated skin lesion which was spreading down the face. Biopsy revealed nematodes similar to third stage larvae of Habronema microstoma. This appears to be the first report of cutaneous habronemiasis in horses in the UK, although the parasite is not uncommon in the stomach of British horses. The cutaneous infestations are more commonly found in hot climates: this case was presented after a particularly hot period of weather.
