Weanling Sprague-Dawley rats were given for 3 weeks diets with 20% soya protein (Promine D) which has 1% methionine, and a vitamin mixture not including vitamin B-12 or choline. As supplements to the basal diet groups of 6 rats were given choline bitartrate 0.7 or DL-methionine 2.1 mmoles per 100 g diet or vitamin B-12 50 micro g per kg or combinations of those, or different amounts of sarcosine hydrochloride. No rat died unless sarcosine was given.
