The effects of D-6-methyl-8-[beta-isopropylaminoethyl] ergoline-I on the lactation in nursing rats

D-6-methyl-8[ beta -isopropylaminoethyl]ergoline-I (VUFB-10726) was administered via stomach tube in doses of between 0.01 and 1 mg/kg/ml active base to Wistar primiparous rats. An anti-lactation effect was detected with daily doses of more than or equal to 0.05 mg/kg. Doses of 0.5 and 1 mg/kg completely stopped lactation; this effect was reversible after drug withdrawal. Exogenous supply of prolactin prevented the anti-lactation effect of the compound suggesting that the effects may be connected with inhibition of prolactin production [see following abstr.].
