The recent 8th German Youth Service Congress in Saarbrucken brought together young people and organizations involved in youth work and policy to discuss the situation and problems faced by young people in the GFR today, and the role and activities of youth organizations, clubs and centres. Of particular relevance among the topics discussed was the area of youth travel and holidays, which has become a major focus of youth policy. A number of projects have been set up in this area as a way of encouraging travel and greater participation by young people and youth groups in, for example, exchange trips with other countries and organized activity holidays such as those involving swimming, mountaineering or camping. The idea is to get youth clubs and organizations more directly involved with the activities and leisure lifestyles of young people.
