Significant developments in the global control programme for the elimination of lymphatic filariasis are highlighted. Synergism of lymphatic filariasis elimination and malaria control activities is proposed. An appendix discussing the role and control of mosquito vectors of lymphatic filariae, new methods for detecting infection in these vectors and the progress already made by the Global Programme to Eliminate Lymphatic Filariasis is also included.
