KNO3 was estimated in 4 forage samples by 16 laboratories. Individual reported values varied widely for each sample with coefficients of variation 36, 51, 13 and 55%. Average recovery from samples was 105%. The analytical results, as a group, were unacceptable both statistically and for use in feeding recommendations. Three values reported could have resulted in feeding livestock with potentially toxic forage.
