The effect of ticlopidine and lysine acetylsalicylate on fibrinolytic activity of the arterial wall in experimental atherosclerosis

The fibrinolytic activity in the aortic arch and thoracic aorta was studied in rabbits subjected to an atherogenic diet and ticlopidine and lysine acetyl salicylate. A markedly diminished fibrinolytic was observed in the group of rabbits receiving an atherogenic diet only, and in some it was nonexistent. In histological slices with atheromatosis lesions no fibrinolytic activity was observed. In the groups receiving ticlopidine and lysine acetyl salicylate the fibrinolytic activity is markedly increased. The possible correlation between PGI [prostaglandin I2] and tissue activator release is discussed.
