Disseminated infection with Trichosporon beigelii

A case is reported in a 23-yr-old man with myeloproliferative syndrome, who developed disseminated T. beigelii infection following bone marrow transplant. The patient was initially diagnosed as suffering from candidosis following biopsy of a skin lesion and received amphotericin B therapy. However, one week prior to his death, T. beigelii was isolated from blood, urine and bone marrow. T. beigelii grew from postmortem lung, spleen and kidney cultures.
