A case is reported in a 33-yr-old woman from Puerto Rico with acute myelomonocytic leukaemia. While she was already receiving amphotericin B for suspected Aspergillus sinusitis, the patient developed hepatomegaly and abnormal liver enzymes with high serum bilirubin. Blood cultures were negative but T. cutaneum [T. beigelii] was cultured from specimens obtained at percutaneous liver biopsy. The patient died of fungaemia and polymicrobial sepsis, despite therapy with amphotericin B and 5-fluorocytosine.
