The effects of keeping ewes throughout the year on polyvinyl chloride and polyethylene grating flooring upon growth and attrition of foot horn and moisture of sole horn were compared with keeping on straw. Polyethylene grating flooring was superior to the polyvinyl chloride for better walking safety and more favourable growth and attrition of foot horn. A regression slope specific for sheep was established for conversion of measured conductivity to percentage sole horn moisture, as this differs from that in cattle.
