Langerhans cells are present among the regular columnar cells in the epithelial lining of the main pancreatic ducts . The cells form dendritic cytoplasmic processes. Clear cytoplasm, indented nucleus, absence of desmosomes and the presence of specific Birbeck granules are further characteristic features of these cells. The occurrence of Langerhans cells in a simple columnar epithelium argues against the proposed function in the process of keratinization.
