Survival of goat embryos in rabbit oviduct

Four Barbari females received MGA in the feed at 0.15 mg per day for 16 days, plus an injection of 400-1000 IU PMSG on the last day. 17 fertilized eggs (4- to 8-cell stages) were recovered 4 days after the onset of oestrus, and transferred to the oviducts of 4 rabbits that had been mated with vasectomised males about 72 h previously. The rabbits were killed 24 h later, and 13 embryos (76.7% of those transferred) were recovered. 11 embryos showed normal cleavage. None had progressed to the uterine horns. The 11 normal embryos were transferred surgically into 5 synchronised female goats, 2 of which gave birth to normal kids.
