Egg-laying defective mutants of the nematode Caenorhabditis elegans

The genetic, behavioural and pharmacological characteristics of 59 of 145 fertile mutants of C. elegans that are defective in egg laying are presented. The mutants define 40 new genes, egl, and the distinct categories defined by functioning of the vulva, vulval and uterine muscles and vulval innervation were investigated by testing for reaction to serotonin and imipramine.
