Two serious complications, perforation or laceration of a distended viscus in two horses and abdominal wall cellulitis in two horses, resulted fom needle abdominocentesis during a 2-year period in which 850 peritoneal fluid analyses were performed. The complication proved fatal in three horses; in the other, extensive and prolonged therapy was required.
