Examination of Achatina fulica obtained from various localities in Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea, revealed Angiostrongylus larvae in 12.5%, with 6 to 40 larvae/snail. 9% of rats trapped in Port Moresby were infected with adult Angiostrongylus (species not yet identified). The demonstration that Angiostrongylus is firmly established in snails and rats in Port Moresby indicates that human angiostrongyliasis may occur there. The clinical features of the infection are given, primarily to alert physicians in Australia to the possibility of angiostrongyliasis in patients from Papua New Guinea coming to Australia for treatment.
