Myocardial PO2 [O2 partial pressure] was determined directly by micro-O2 electrodes in dogs. Electrical acupuncture of Neiguan retarded the reduction of PO2 and decreased the amplitude of reduction in the border zone between ischemic and non-ischemic myocardium after ligation of the left descending coronary artery. Thus, regional ischemia could be reduced while electrical acupuncture of Zusanli showed no such effect. The Neiguan point has certain specificity in the improvement of myocardial O2 supply.
