Quantitative content of Bacteroides in normal human intestines and in dysbacteriosis

Obligate anaerobes, bacteroids, bifidobacteria and gram-positive sporeless anaerobic bacilli whose average quantity was approximately the same, are shown to prevail in feces microflora of healthy adults. In patients with acute intestinal infection the anaerobes of the above mentioned groups were excreted more seldom and in less quantities. Treatment of such patients with biological preparations (bificol, bifidumbacterin) favored a much quicker normalization of anaerobe parameters than when chemotherapy was used. No statistically significant differences were found in the quantity of excreted anaerobes when feces samples were inoculated in an anaerobic box and in the open air using 10% lysed blood in physiological solution as a medium for dissolution of material under study and when the inoculates were inoculated in microanaerostats.
