Opisthorchosis invasion induces a considerable increase in the free radical oxidation of the lipids in children. Such changes exert a considerable influence on physical and chemical characteristics of erythrocytes membranes. The processes revealed a decrease in the concentration of some antioxidants (.beta.-carotene) or the absence of equivalent changes of other antioxidants (tocopherol, superoxide/dismutase). The use of chloxyl for the treatment of the opisthorchosis in the children may lead to a further augmentation of the activity of the processes of free radical oxidation. With this specific preparation antioxidant drugs (unithiol, vitamin E) should also be used.
