UDP-coenzymes in glioma tissue of human brain

UDP-coenzymes (UDP glucose (UDPG), UDP-N-acetylglucosamne (UDPAG), UDPG/UDPAG and UDPAG/UDPG ratios) were studied in rabbit and human brain tissues, and in the tissue of human glial brain tumors of varying dedifferentiation. Data were presented on UDP-coenzymes in oligodendrogliomas, astrocytomas and in dedifferentiating astrocytomas and glioblastomas. The UDPAG/UDPG ratio increased with tumor dedifferentiation. An increase in UDPAG level may be to a certain extent linked with an increased level of protein-bound mucolipids in glial tumors.
