The survey was made on 27 976 domestic cats throughout the USA that were considered by veterinary practitioners to be symptomatic or at risk to feline oncovirus (FeLV) or feline immunodeficiency virus (FIV). The combination FeLVAg/FIV Ab test was used. Both viruses were prevalent in feline populations throughout the continent. Overall, 5791 cats (20.6%) were infected with one or both retroviruses, and nearly one in 3 of the symptomatic cats were infected by FeLV, FIV or both viruses.
