Effect of long term feeding of chromate treated parboiled rice in chicks and mice

Feeding parboiled rice treated with 0.05% NaCrO4 during the steeping process of parboiling did not affect their food intake, growth and organ weights or produce any histopathological changes in the tissues. There was no accumulation of Cr in their tissues due to feeding of chromate treated parboiled rice for 1 yr. Apparently, long-term feeding of chromate treated rice at 80% level in the diet is not associated with any harmful effects in mice and chicks.
