This paper presents an updated review on the epidemiological and clinical aspects of toxoplasmosis during pregnancy and its effect on the fetus and neonate. Several new parasitological and epidemiological concepts are discussed, as well as the clinical presentation of perinatal infection. Current diagnostic approaches and treatment of pregnant woman, fetus and neonate are described. Recent controversies on the different strategies for primary and secondary prevention of toxoplasmosis during pregnancy are also discussed.
