A case of envenomation by Latrodectus mactans hasseltii [L. hasseltii] in a 12-day-old baby is described from Western Australia. The signs of envenomation in a neonate are discussed, together with the dose of antivenom necessary for treatment. In episodes of intractable crying in neonates, the possibility of spider bite should be considered.
