The effect of various myocardial treatments during anoxic arrest were examined in 50 mongrel dogs. The dogs were classed into 5 groups according to the methods of myocardial protection and anoxic arrest time variations. The effects of myocardial protection, postischemic recovery of cardiac output, DPTI/TTI endocardium. Clinical research was also carried out on 58 patients who underwent aortic valve replacement. Experimentally and clinically modified Kirsch solution and GMK solution both had a danger of inviting postischemic bradycardia and LOS. Causes for this are probably the high concentrations of K, Mg or procaine in these solutions, which might cause myocardial or conduction system damage or the hyperosmolarity of these solutions. The best method found was the multidose cardioplegia of modified St. Thomas solution, combined with topical cooling with ice chips. Modified St. Thomas solution contains a moderate concentration of K, Mg and procaine and has moderate hyperosmolarity. This method was appled to 13 clinical cases after aortic valve replacement operations and the results were satisfactory.
