Psychological aspects of people's participation in preventive examinations (primary screening)

Socio-psychological features of subjects embraced by the prophylactic screening for ischemic heart disease were identified. The following methods were used: baseline questionnaire to collect information on socio-medical attitudes of potential participants and non-participants; subjective observation for studying the features of personality which are relevant to participation. Patients (293) were examined. Most important predictors of non-participation were: low conformity, low sociability absence of direct necessity, high appraisal of health or contentment of medical service usually received; psychological deviations such as alcoholism, low intellect and states bordering neurosis.
