Pleomorphic atypical thyroid adenoma arising in struma testis: light microscopic, ultrastructural and immunofluorescent studies

A monophyletic mature teratoma of the human testis (struma) associated with a thyroid adenoma is reported. The tumor displayed light microscopic and EM similarities to the normal thyroid and to thyroid tumors. Presence of thyroglobulin in the tumor tissue was demonstrated by immunofluorescence. This case illustrates an exceedingly rare variant of testicular teratoma and demonstrates application of the immunofluorescence technique in diagnostic surgical pathology.
