Reciprocal distribution of newly synthesized DNA and RNA was shown during fractionation of chromatin after limited hydrolysis with nuclease of rat liver nuclei. Chromatin areas, the most sensitive to the enzyme, are enriched with a rapid-labeled RNA and resistant ones with replicating DNA. Nevertheless in the resting liver, the chromatin areas with the newly synthesized DNA possess increased sensitivity to the action of endogenous nuclease. Endogenous Ca2+,Mg2+-dependent nuclease of the nuclei may be involved in the repair systems.
