Erythrocytes in insulin-dependent diabetics show higher osmotic fragility than those in healthy subjects. Erythrocytes originating from diabetics with vascular complications show the highest resistance to osmotic hemolysis. The content of sialic acid in the ghost erythrocytes of all diabetic patients was higher than normal.
