Lipid compositions of a methicillin-resistant S. aureus strain (met R 18) and pencillin G-resistant B. licheniformis strain (749/C) at the late stationary phase of growth are described. Lipid contents of these organisms were higher (.apprx. 2 times) and phospholipid contents lower (.apprx. half) than those of the wild types. Neutral lipid content increased in both the organisms. The percentage of unsaturated fatty acids was higher in the resistant organisms. Glucose was the only sugar present in the lipid fraction of the resistant organisms. The composition of individual phospholipids, glycolipids and neutral lipids in the resistant organisms was different from that of the corresponding wild types.
