Venous blood was taken from 121 healthy women 18 to 75 years old, 2 of them pregnant, for estimation of plasma ascorbic acid, total cholesterol and high-density lipoprotein (HDL) cholesterol. Mean values for the 3 compounds, in that order, were 0.84 mg/100 ml, 5.61 mmol/litre and 1.20 mmol/litre. HDL cholesterol was correlated significantly with ascorbic acid, as total cholesterol was with age.
