The subunit MW of mammalian lung .beta.2 adrenergic receptors was determined to be 59,000 daltons with monoclonal and autoantibody immunoaffinity chromatography, and sodium dodecyl sulfate polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis. Target size analysis of mammalian lung membrane .beta.2 adrenergic receptors indicates a functional MW for the .beta.2 receptor in situ of 109,000 .+-. 5,300 daltons. The mammalian lung .beta.2 receptor may be a dimer of 2 identical subunits of 59,000 daltons.
