Testis dimensions, weight and volume were similar in 2 groups of Arabs aged 5-9 and 10-15 yr resp., but in a similar comparison for native stallions, older animals had significantly higher values than younger animals. Sperm number per testis (estimated from examination of testis homogenates) was similar in the Arabs of the 2 age groups (21.3 X 109 and 23.1 X 109 resp.), but native stallions showed a significant increase with increasing age (17.8 X 109 vs. 22.1 X 109). Both types of horse showed significant increases with age in epididymal sperm reserves (26.1 X 109 vs. 35.8 X 109 for Arabs and 22.0 X 109 vs. 33.8 X 109 for natives) and epididymal transit time (6.6 vs. 8.3 and 7.1 vs. 8.3 days resp.).
