Isoelectric focusing consists of determination of pH at which cells have no net charge (pI). Using zwitterionic buffer salts on LKB column, the pI of T and B cells of a day old chick was determined. The thymic cells showed a sharp peak and a shoulder at pI of 4.52 .+-. 0.03 and 4.69 .+-. 0.02, respectively. The pI of the bursal cells was 3.18 .+-. 0.18, indicating the possibility of differentially identifying and separating T and B cells. This seems to be the 1st report on differences in the pI of chick T and B cells.
