Upon electrodiathermocoagulation of the front wall of the left heart ventricle through the pericardium, pronounced thickening occurs in the place of commissure of the pericardium with the necrosed area of the myocardium in rats. Such structures already appear on the 6th day after the operation; as yet loose, their cells intensively synthesize DNA. EM study has shown that, despite close similarity to myocardial tissue no heart muscle fibers occur in the newly formed structures in the pericardium. They consist of bundles of collagenous fibers, small blood vessels, young fibroblasts, collagen-producing fibroblasts, fibroblasts and macrophages. Since these organotypical structures occur only at the site of commissure of the pericardium with a coagulated region of the myocardium, there are excellent reasons to suppose that they originate from certain pericardial cells under the action of substances being diffused from the damaged myocardium.
