Serum beta 2-microglobulin in temporal arteritis

In a prospective study, the serum .beta.2-microglobulin concentration was studied in 6 patients with temporal arteritis before and after starting immunosuppressive therapy. All patients had increased serum .beta.2-microglobulin levels in the course of their disease. This concentration fell in all patients after prednisone therapy. .beta.2-Microglobulin is a useful index of activity in patients with temporal arteritis, in spite of its non-specificity.
