Use of echocardiography in the diagnosis of narrowing of the left ventricular inflow tract in congenital heart defects

Results of analysis of echocardiograms of patients with congenital heart diseases which involved narrowing of the inflow pathway to the left ventricle of varying etiology (a membrane in the left atrium, supravalvular mitral ring or stenosis of the mitral opening) are described. Echocardiographic data of this group of defects, due to their rarity and to diagnostic difficulty, have been insufficiently studied. Echocardiography should be useful in topical diagnosis and in evaluation of function of the valvular apparatus of the heart.
