Stress radiography: applications in small animal practice

In stress radiography a controlled pressure is applied to joints to reveal abnormalities which may not normally be visible. It is particularly useful in locating sprained ligaments and instability disorders of the spine. In the dog, stress radiography is most successful when applied at specific anatomical sites--temporomandibular joint, atlantoaxial joint, cervical spine, lumbosacral spine, shoulder, elbow, carpus, stifle and tarsus. Details of the technique and its uses are described.
