Normal anatomy of the muscles and the main arterial, venous and nerve trunks is described for the zeugopodium and autopodium of the White Leghorn chick, which is commonly used for experimental studies. On the basis of examination of 30 right wings (dissection under a dissecting microscope, injection of the blood vessels with contrast substance, cross sections of frozen wings), tables of norms were drawn up, i.e., 6 norma dorsalis tables, 7 norma ventralis tables and 3 tables of cross sections perpendicular to the long axis of the zeugopodium and autopodium. The position of the various structures in the cross sections was controlled in serial histological sections of the wings of embryos at stage 37HH-40HH [Hemburger-Hamilton]. A norm is provided which can be used for evaluating the results of experimental interference with development of the limbs of chick embryos.
