The effect of pyramin (chloridazon) at 100 ppm, venzar (lenacil) at 50 ppm and their combination on the production of free amino acids, humic substances and polysaccharides by Azotobacter chroococcum strains was tested. Pyramin weakly inhibited the production of most free amino acids and strongly inhibited their extracellular release. Only the production of tyrosine and phenylalanine were stimulated by pyramin. Venzar inhibited production of some amino acids, especially tyrosine, phenylalanine, cystine and leucine, while production of asparagine/glutamine was stimulated. Production of fulvic acids and hymatomelanic acids was not changed significantly. A stimulatory effect of pyramin and an inhibitory effect of venzar on the production of humic acids was observed. The production of mucopolysaccharides was stimulated significantly by pyramin. The production of extracellular polysaccharides was stimulated by pyramin, venzar and their combination.
