Administration of antiandrogens (flutamide, SCH 16423 [.alpha.,.alpha.,.alpha.-trifluoro-2-methyl-4'-nitro-m-lactotoluidide] and cyproterone acetate in a dose 25 mg/kg body wt per day, for 10 days) to adult male Swiss mice altered the glycogen metabolism of spermatozoa in the caput epididymidis. The activity of fructose-1,6-diphosphatase [EC 3.1.3.11] decreased while that of glycogen phosphorylase a [EC 2.4.1.1] and glucose oxidation increased in spermatozoa of the caput epididymidis of experimental animals, compared to those in controls. The results indicate a significant activation of glycolysis in spermatozoa of the caput epididymidis of animals treated with antiandrogens.
