Intravenous urography and echography following surgery for curable uterine carcinoma

Cases (56) of total enlarged lymphadenocolpohysterectomy (Meig's technique) and cases (109) of hysterocolpolymphadenectomy (Wiart technique) were reported. Postoperative pelvic narrowing of the ureter with hypotonia of sub-jacent stasis was found in approximately half the cases during Meig's technique; hypotonia was exceptional during simple hysterectomy. This difference seems to be related to a lesion of the T-shaped ureteral artery during radical hysterectomy. In both series, the post-operative complications were < 10%. In a 2nd study of 40 patients treated by an association of radiotherapy and surgery for uterine carcinoma, the results of echography and urography are compared. Taking into consideration the results and the sensitivity of the echography and urography are compared. Taking into consideration the results and the sensitivity of the echographic method, it seems that post-operative urography is not necessary and that it should only be carried out after the results of echography and if clinical signs suggesting ureteral stenosis appear.
