Nitroglycerin oinment (NTG Oint) was evaluated in 20 patients after cardiac surgery. Low cardiac output syndrome (LOS) occurred in 8 of these cases. Dopamine and NTG Oint combination therapy were evaluated in patients with this syndrome. NTG Oint was very effective because it produced reduction preload and afterload to the heart, especially in the group with high pulmonary wedge pressure. Dopamine and NTG Oint combination therapy was more significant than NTG Oint alone for cardiac function. This combination therapy is a new, useful method for LOS after open heart surgery.
