Primary malignant lymphomas of the thyroid might therefore be expected to metastasize most frequently to the kidneys, and, indeed, reference to the post-mortem reports on the seven patients in the Royal Marsden Hospital series who (among 16) died with spread from malignant lymphoma of the thyroid, reveals that the kidneys were involved in five subjects, the lungs involved in four, and the gastro-intestinal tract in three (as already mentioned). Conclusions as to the spread by predilection of malignant lymphomas of the thyroid to the gastro-intestinal tract seem to be rather insecurely based.
