Evaluation of serological diagnostic methods in chlamydiosis

The following methods of chlamydioses serological diagnosis were tested: hemagglutination-inhibition reaction, indirect immunofluorescence reaction, indirect hemagglutination reaction and complement fixation test. The indirect hemagglutination test and the complement fixation test are the most promising for practical application. The isolation of chlamydial sensitin by the Volkert Christensen method in a modification of Chervonsky and Popova, and by the method of ultrasound disintegration and sorption of the obtained antigen on formalinized sheep erythrocytes is stated to be possible. The titers of the indirect hemagglutination reaction were 4-8-16 times as high as those of the complement fixation test. The indirect hemagglutination reaction may be recommended as a practically simple method for diagnosing chlamydial infections.
