Colonic tuberculosis mimicking ulcerative colitis

In the present case there was no clue to the diagnosis of colonic tuberculosis, prior to the report of the colonic biopsy. A similar case was reported in 1976, but in that patient only the distal colon was involved. In a recently reported case, however, the chest Xray film showed evidence of pulmonary tuberculosis. The importance of the present case, especially in developing countries such as ours, where tuberculosis is common, is that the possibility of colonic tuberculosis should be kept in mind even if the patient has diffuse pancolitis like that seen in ulcerative colitis.
