In a given region 2500 out-patient clinic attendants were submitted to examinations of serological reactions to toxoplasmosis and listeriosis. Among them, 85 (3.4%) delivered babies with congenital malformations (6 of them twice, 1 of them thrice; the total number of babies with congenital malformations was 93). Chi square test demonstrated a high significance of difference between toxoplasmosis infection in women who delivered babies with congenital defects vs. those who delivered healthy babies. The percent of infections was the highest in the age range between 21-30 yr and 31-40 yr. Thus, an effect of toxoplasmosis upon the formation of congenital malformations was suggested. The high titers of the Sabin-Feldman reaction were 4 times more frequent in mothers bearing defected babies than in those delivering healthy babies.
