The process of deterioration of the stability of human Ig preparations from the placenta was studied. Preparations produced in the last 3 yr, still within the expiration period, were tested. Upon storage, the amount of aggregates and monomer decreased, while an increase was observed in the amount of large fragments, deterioration products of lower molecules, and in extreme cases low peptides and amino acids, which was manifested by sediment formation. The sediment contained trace amounts of certain amino acids (0.016 .mu.M/ml) and large amount of tyrosine (0.33 .mu.M/ml). This indicates a far-going proteolytic decomposition due to enzymes that were not properly eliminated during the technological process of Ig production. Intensity of these processes may depend on the original biological material and on its storage.
