Nocardia asteroides abortion in swine

The piglets of a sow which aborted 10 days prematurely showed gross and microscopic evidence of purulent bronchopneumonia when examined postmortem. Nocardia asteroides was isolated from the lungs and stomach contents. The remaining 17 sows were not affected. It is not considered that Nocardia is an important herd problem or common cause of swine abortion.
