Two species of Aedes hitherto placed in the subgenus Ochlerotatus, A. dufouri Hamon, known only from Reunion, and A. fryeri (Theo.), found in Ethiopia, Kenya, Mozambique, Madagascar and the Seychelles, are transferred to the subgenus Levua (which is based only on the Fijian species A. geoskusea Amos) on account of similarity of structure of male genitalia. In all 3 species, the appendage of the style is in the form of 2 strong claws and the basal lobe is isolated from the coxite along the whole perimeter. The subgeneric characters are listed and differences between the species are discussed.
