Migraine is a common problem in children and adolescents. Migraine without aura is most common variety. In migraine with aura one may see a pattern of lines, lights or shadows in front of their eyes as the headache is beginning. Diagnosis is mainly clinical, but in some atypical cases, CT/MRI of brain and other tests can be performed to be sure that there are no other causes of headache. Treating physician should also assure the parents as well as the patients that the headache is not caused by a brain tumour or other life- threatening conditions. In acute cases initially, analgesics such as ibuprofen, acetaminophen, naproxen, etc, are used, where triptans and dihydroergotamine are migraine-specific drugs. For children who has 2 or more disabling attacks per week or 3-4 severe attacks per month, need prophylactic medications.
